Anemometers
Hand Anemometer
This is a compact, portable and passive instrument requiring no power supply or batteries, which gives a direct reading of wind speed in four different scales simultaneously.
A vertical spindle carrying three small plastic cups of 35mm diameter rotates on ball bearings at a rate proportional to wind speed. The anemometer has a handle and two curved feet to prevent damage to the cups when it is laid down.

Cup Counter Anemometer

The Cup Counter Anemometer is a passive instrument that indicates the total run of wind past the observation point via a mechanical counter. The observation window to the mechanical counter is inclined to allow easy reading from below. By observing the counter reading at the beginning and end of any period of interest, the average wind speed during that interval can be calculated. Brass, copper, stainless steel and plastics are used throughout the instrument to ensure freedom from corrosion and a long working life and a conical shield protects the upper spindle bearing from precipitation. The only maintenance required is annual lubrication of the top spindle bearing, as all other bearings are self-lubricating.
