The Casella Solarimeter has been designed to measure the intensity of total global solar radiation received at the earth’s surface. Total radiation represents both direct and diffused sunlight received from the whole hemisphere.
The solarimeter is a passive device, requiring no power supply and provides a voltage output which may be read by a data logger or similar reading device and then converted into watts per square metre (W/m2). The sensor itself is based upon a silicon photo-detector that is housed within a weatherproof, anodized aluminum body and is therefore suited to reliable, long-term operation in outdoor conditions.
